Celebrate the beginning of Hip-Hop History Month at EMP Museum in partnership with 206 Zulu.
Special K, Ozone, and Turbo must stop a developer from demolishing a community center in order to build a shopping mall in Breakin’ 2: Electric Boogaloo.
Following the screening, Adolfo “Shabba Doo” Quiñones (Ozone) will discuss the film and how it has inspired dance culture around the world. Then, Seattle b-boys and b-girls will take the stage to perform their best dance moves.
A special selection of artifacts from the EMP Museum vault will be on display throughout November and beyond in recognition of the significant impact hip-hop has on contemporary pop culture.
Special artifacts include:
• Album liner notes for 2Pacalypse Now, handwritten by Tupac Shakur, 1991
• “Beat Bop” 12-inch single by Rammellzee and K-Rob, released on Jean-Michel Basquiat’s label Tartown, 1983 (pictured left)
• Technics SL-1200MK2 turntables, used by Grandmaster Flash in the late 1970s and early 1980s
• Leather jacket and pants worn by Kurtis Blow for premiere of the film Krush Groove, October 23, 1985
• Lyrics for “The Breaks,” handwritten by Kurtis Blow, ca. 1980
• Suit and shoes worn by Master P at the 26th Annual American Music Awards, January 11, 1999
• Stage outfit painted by graffiti artist Delta 2 and worn by Prince Whipper Whip of the Fantastic Five, ca. 1982
