Seattle’s Supreme La Rock is that rare breed of DJ who can go from the jet-set club scene one night to playing the rarest 45s the next . He got his start on the Seattle music scene as a member of the Incredicrew – their 1987 single “King in Def Poetry” caught them a nice buzz. A cameo in Sir Mix-A-Lot’s “My Posse’s on Broadway” didn’t hurt either. He’s since gone on to start Conception Records, is a member of The Sharpshooters and, alongside Jake One, formed world-renowned producers, The Con Men. Supreme is credited with unearthing Seattle’s soulful past by finding a dusty 45 single by Black On White Affair in a .50 cent bin at a Seattle record show. He approached record label Light In The Attic with the idea of releasing an album compilation of his discoveries, and the result was entitled Wheedle’s Groove: Seattle’s Finest In Funk & Soul 1965-75. The compilation also spawned a documentary of the same name. The film features Supreme and interviews with local soul musicians of the era, as well as commentary from Seattle native and legendary producer Quincy Jones.
